Switzerland - photo essay
This is a photo essay, which is a part of my master graduation thesis made in a Masterly Apprentice Graduation Studio at Eindhoven University of Technology in the years 2015-2016. The studio focused on a master-apprentice relationship between contemporary Swiss architects. You can read more about the studio here.
All the pictures were taken by me during the two trips we have made to Switzerland in November 2015 and January 2016. It was not the Switzerland we know from the postcards: with green meadows and grazing sheeps. I can still hear avalanches descending in the distance. A great deal of the buildings made by Swiss architects, such as Rudolf Olgiati, Peter Zumthor, Gion A. Caminada are located in the mountainous canton of Grisons. Most of the time it was snowy what made it very difficult to travel searching for the buildings. Moreover being made out of local materials make them blend into the surroundings. However this extreme weather made the expierience even more remarkable: we could see how the buildings adapt to such conditions and how natural it is for them to withstand the pressure of wind and be covered by loads of snow.
